Background: The COVID-19 (Coronavirus Disease of 2019) virus has affected millions of people around the world, and it is likely to induce mental health issues in those who have never had one before, as well as worsen the condition of those who already have. Objective(s): To determine the effect of COVID-19 on mental health and quality of life. Methodology: The non-probability convenient sampling strategy was utilized in this cross-sectional research. A sample of 300 Males and Female with age above 30 who have gone through COVID-19 and recovered before one month or more are included in the study. All patients who already had cognitive issues even before COVID-19 were excluded from the study. The study variables were measured using the MMSE (mental health) and WHOQOL-BREF (quality of life). Result(s): The results revealed that 128 participants (43%) of the respondents were male and 172 participants (57%) were female. The findings showed that 32 people were with normal mental health, 100 were with mild and 36 were with moderate mental health between the ages of 30-39. 52 people were with normal mental health, 24 were with mild and no one was with moderate mental health between the ages of 40-49. 4 people were with normal mental health, 4 were with mild and 24 were moderate mental health between the ages of 50-59. 12 people were with normal mental health with, 4 were with mild and no one was with moderate mental health between the ages of 60-69. The results also showed that there was a significant association between mental health and quality of life. chi-square test of independence showed significant association between mental health and quality of life with 2 (N = 300) = 600.0, p = .000. The findings showed that people with normal mental health had very good quality of life, people with mild mental health have poor quality of life and people with moderate mental health have very poor quality of life. Conclusion(s): It was concluded from the study that COVID-19 has badly effected mental health and quality of life of the patients suffered from coronavirus.Copyright © 2023 Lahore Medical And Dental College. The construction industry plays a significant role in developing a country's economy. However, the success in this sector largely depends upon the performance of its human resources engaged in different functions. The rapidly developing countries like Malaysia are primarily focusing on improving their infrastructure, ultimately giving rise to a boom in the construction industry, though still, not many studies focused on performance management via a modern working environment. Nonetheless, the present COVID-19 pandemic has driven industries to implement new/modern working methods, but it has yet to be assessed whether the new practices have changed job performance. Dwelling on that, this study explores the modern working possibilities, including flexible work schedules, sabbaticals, and telecommuting, as critical factors affecting employee performance engaged in the construction industry. The data was collected via a survey in Malaysia and then statistically analyzed Structural Equation Modelling. The findings suggest flexible work practices and sabbaticals as critical factors deemed to improve employee performance especially during the recent pandemic of COVID-19. Furthermore, telecommuting is identified as another assertive factor affecting construction performance. Thus, this study will serve as the baseline to further explore the role of these important performance attributes on construction as well as other industries. © 2022, University of Cienfuegos, Carlos Rafael Rodriguez. Objective: The objective of this study was to determine the frequency of peripheral nervous system disorders among COVID-19 survivors. Study Design: Cross-sectional Survey Place and Duration of Study: This study was conducted at the Department of Rehabilitation and Allied Health Sciences, Riphah International University Lahore Campus from December, 2020 to June, 2021 for a period of 06 months. Materials and Methods: 144 patients recovered from Covid-19 through non probability convenience sampling were recruited for study. Patients were assessed for pain, smell, taste, balance and two-point discrimination and the ability to identify familiar objects. The data was collected according to the responses after patients approved to provide information. Data was coded in SPSS data sheet which was later analyzed for statistical frequencies and percentages. Results: Mean age of patients was reported to be 34.5 ± 6.9 years. The mean score patients marked on the VAS scale for their pain was reported to be 4.96 with a standard deviation of 1.77. 42.4% of the 144 patients had complaints of symptoms associated to peripheral nerve involvements thus making a prevalence of 42.4%. Out of 144 patients in total, 39 i.e. 27.1% reported to have a total loss of smell i.e. Anosmia, 42 patients i.e. 29.2% sensed the smell accurately, 45 i.e. 31.3% had a reduced sense of smell whereas 18 patients i.e. 12.5% had an increased sensitivity to the different smells they were asked to sense. 47 patients i.e. 32.6% had ageusia i.e. a total loss of taste they were offered. 36 i.e. 25% had normal taste and accurately comprehended the different flavors they were offered, 41 i.e. 28.5% had reduced taste sense i.e. hypoeusia and responded that they could taste but the intensity was lesser than normal. Conclusion: Majority of the patients had peripheral nerve symptoms, a loss of smell, taste and impaired balance after recovery. © 2021 Medical Forum Monthly. All rights reserved.

OBJECTIVE: Cytokine release syndrome is suggested to be the most important mechanism triggering acute respiratory distress syndrome and end organ damage in COVID-19. The severity of disease may be measured by different biomarkers. METHODS: We studied markers of inflammation and coagulation as recorded in 29 patients on admission to the hospital in order to identify markers of severe COVID-19 and need of ICU. RESULTS: Patients who were eventually admitted to ICU displayed significantly higher serum levels of interleukin-6 (IL-6), C-reactive protein (CRP), and procalcitonin. No statistical differences were found between the groups in median levels of lymphocytes, D-dimer or ferritin. CONCLUSIONS: IL-6 and CRP were the strongest predictors of severity in hospitalized patients with COVID-19.
